4-Week Slovak Language Program to be held in Bratislava

Dates

June 6-July 15, 2011 :Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Intensive Slovak in Pittsburgh

July 18-August 12, 2011: Intermediate level Slovak (after the 6 week Pittsburgh course) in Slovakia

  • These courses are open to students of any age, including juniors and seniors in high school, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to persons of any age not currently enrolled in a college or university. Students must be 18 to participate in the abroad program. Partial scholarship aid is available. The courses carry six college credits. The classes meet Monday through Friday from 9:00-3:00 for six weeks.
  • Upon completion of the Pittsburgh program, students in beginning and intermediate Slovak may opt to continue their studies in Slovakia July 20-August 14 for a total of ten college credits. Those with an intermediate-level knowledge of Slovak may participate in the 4-week program only (for four college credits) without having to complete the Pittsburgh program.

Cultural Activities

Bratislava is the capital city of Slovakia. Cultural excursions in Slovakia are an integral part of the program. In Bratislava during the program students tour Old Town, the Bratislava Castle, St. Martin's Cathedral, the National Museum of History, Michael's Church Tower, Buildings of Socialism, Devin and Devinska Kobyla, Marianka, Pezinok ,among other sites of interest. The long trip around Slovakia at the end of the program has included such places as High Tatra mountains, Tatranska Lomnica, Strbske Pleso, and historical centre of Kosice. The weekend trips to Vienna, Budapest, or Prague are also offered (not included in the program fee).
