Pitt Slavic Alum lecture by Dr. Olga Kim, assistant professor of Russian studies at Williams College.
In this talk, I examine Sergei Parajanov’s experimental style that pushes the limits of the cinematic medium to its edge. I take a closer look at the potential of Parajanov’s collage and tableau aesthetics as alternatives to conventional montage and linear perspectival space in cinema. My hope is to recast perspectives on late socialist modernity through this experimental style that emerged on the edges of the Soviet empire.
